Sir John Guise Complex Taking Shape
Renovation work at the Sir John Guise indoor complex at Waigani is slowly taking shape to become a world class standard sporting facility in preparation for the 2015 Pacific Games.Contractors for the complex, Phoenix Builders Ltd today took Sports Minister, Justin Tkatchenko on a tour around the complex. The stadium will have a seating capacity of 2000. It Previously it could hold only 500 people.The new complex worth K600,000 will host a number of sporting codes including boxing, weightlifting, squash and martial arts.Tkatchenko says he is pleased with progress on the complex and other facilities that will host the July games. “I am very happy with progress so far. Work On New Look Pari School On Target
The overhaul of classrooms for one of Motu-Koita’s oldest schools is on target and work is expected to complete by the end of this year. Pari Primary school has educated the likes of Professor Isi Kevau and the late Sir Buri Kidu since the colonial days. Sadly the school has not seen much needed maintenance to its old classrooms. In August this year, NCD Governor Powes Parkop and MP for Moresby South Justin Tkatchenko jointly funded the refurbishment of the school’s 14 classrooms.The maintenance work is being undertaken by contractors Phoenix at the cost of K1.2 million. So far they have completed eight of the school’s 14 classrooms. They are now now working on the third block of a double story classroom. The school refurbishment will also see the construction of proper ablution blocks. The school has been using pit toilets for almost 40 years. MP Lauds Tribes For Giving Up Land
MOTU-KOITABUAN landowners must be given the respect they deserve for giving their land for city development, says Moresby-South MP Justin Tkatchenko. Tkatchenko, when initiating a ring road construction groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, said no one other than the legitimate landowners could remove people from the land. The ring road from Kagure’s 14th Street will link the Korobosea village to the Koroboro Drive, which had not been repaired for more than 20 years and been closed for 14 years.“I have heard rumours that there were individuals and groups of people who are claiming to own some of the settlements here and threatening to remove the residents. Nobody has any right to do this, not a parliamentarian or those who claim to own and hold title to these lands except the legitimate landowners.” Tkatchenko told the residents at the Korobosea village that there were people coming to remove the residents, saying they owned these lands. “These are total lies, don’t listen to them, no one is going anywhere, you will live. Lies will not remove anyone.” He said there were good leaders now and work would be done for the people to benefit and live on their lands. The road construction and maintenance was a joint project with National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop that will see people having a proper road for the first time.Tkatchenko said the road has been in existence in the past for sometime but was closed due to criminal activities when a church moderator was brutally murdered by criminals along the road. He pledged to work with the community and to seal the road to benefit the villagers. Korobosea village councillor Degure Gorogo thanked the MP and said Korobosea was one of the four main Koitabuan villages in the city. Pari School Getting Modernised
Progressive work on the refurbishing of one of Port Moresby and Motu Koita’s oldest schools is progressing well ahead of the 2015 school year.Students of the Pari Primary School will finally have proper ablution blocks, sports facilities, proper landscaped assembly area and 14 fully refurbished classrooms to start the new school year.For 40 years the students who attended the school used pit toilets which will now be a thing of the past with proper septic toilets constructed and ready for next month.In August last year, NCD Governor Powes Parkop and Member for Moresby South Justin Tkatchenko jointly funded the refurbishment of the school’s 14 classrooms.The maintenance work is being undertaken by contractors Phoenix at the cost of K1.2 million.Chairman of Pari Primary school Ray Nou says all the classrooms have been completed and contractors are working on the landscaping touches.He says the netball and volleyball courts are being worked on and they are “almost there” in the school’s overhaul project.Sally Pokiton | Jan 13, 2015 | http://www.pngloop.com/2015/01/13/pari-school-getting-modernised/

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has encouraged the people of Moresby South to support and respect each other which will contribute to development in their area. These were the words spoken by the Prime Minister at the official opening of the new Koki market today.He was accompanied by other government ministers including Attorney General Ano Pala, Finance Minister James Marape, Public Service Minister, Dr Puka Temu, NCD Governor Powes Parkop as well as representatives from the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and the Australian and New Zealand government.“Our leaders in this government are more committed towards bringing about change. Funding is going where it is needed. “This country is changing, and we must all change too to help it grow and develop, “said O’Neill.The Prime Minister commended member for Moresby South, Justin Tkatchenko who in a short time had brought about many changes in his electorate. “I also appeal to the youths to stay away from drugs and alcohol and help your mothers sell food at the market which is going to put food on the table for you. K400m Roads For City
Four major roads costing more than K400 millions are to be built in Port Moresby as part of a plan to expand the city, and identifynew suburbs and economic zones.National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop said the four major roads would expand Port Moresby to its boundaries as it looked forward to hosting the 2018 APEC leaders’ summit. “It will bring about the physical transformation of the city” Parkop said. He said the road projects would “lift Port Moresby, inspire the people, (allow it to) become a real capital in the Pacific which we all should be proud of”.The K400m contracts were awarded to:-- Global Construction (K119.5m) to build a three-kilometre, four-lane road, and a nine-kilometre, two lane road from the Taurama by-pass to the Magi Highway-- Hebou Construction (K160.2m) to build a 14km. four-lane road from 6-Mile to Bautama on the Magi Highway-- China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (K80.2m) to construct a 4.7km, four-lane road to connect Tokarara to the Hanuabada by-pass or Koura Way-- Phoenix Builders Ltd was awarded K37.2m to construct a 5km, two-lane road from Gerehu to Parliament House or Magani Crescent.Niugini Builders has also been given K16.1m to re-build a 150-bed men’s dornitory at the University of PNG to replace the razed Lasitewa dormitory.Parkop said it was a continuation of investment in the capital city from the Gorvenment and NCDC. “We cannot wait to build these infrastructures later because construction costs increase every year - with inflation and Consumer Price Index adjustments.” He said the NCDC was yet to find funding to complete roads from 9-Mile to Laloki to complement the widening by the Works Department of Laloki Bridge to four lanes, 9-Mile to 17-Mile and 9-Mile to Bootless Bay. “We’ve tendered these projects but awaiting funding.
